How Can I Join?

The subscription year commences on 1st September each year although membership applications can be received at any time. If you join after 1 March the appropriate subscription rate will be HALF of the rates quoted below and your membership will be valid until the 31 August, after which a new annual subscription rate becomes due on 1 September. The current (2009-2010) subscription rates are as follows:

Individual membership£ 13.00
Family membership (2 persons)£ 15.00
Family membership (3 or more persons)£ 17.00
Overseas membership - please ADD the sterling equivalent of £ 4.00 (Europe) or £ 8.00 (rest of world) to cover air mail postage. Unfortunately, because of high bank charges to clear cheques drawn on foreign banks, we can only accept overseas subscriptions by sterling banker's draft or (at your own risk) foreign currency in note (bill) form.

DATA PROTECTION ACT 1984:

We are obliged to draw your attention to the provisions of the above Act as your membership details will be kept on computer. Please read carefully. The Act is designed to regulate the use of automatically processed information relating to individuals and provision of services in respect of such information.

The Act contains provisions relating to registration by the Data Protection Registrar of data users and persons operating computer bureaux and the rights of data subjects. There are certain exemptions from these provisions including personal data used only for the purpose of distribution or recording of articles or information to the data subjects and consisting of their names, addresses and other particulars necessary for effecting distribution. This exemption also applies if you have been asked whether you object to the data about you being held as mentioned above and you have not objected. It is also a condition of this exemption that data is not disclosed or used unless the data subject has consented to such disclosure and use. It is not intended to disclose or use personal information other than in relation to the distribution of articles or information to members.

Members are advised that their objections to data being held in this manner could cause considerable difficulty and extra work to FoLA officers and may result in delays in the dispatch of articles and information to members.
